Haven’t had a HUGE event to write about but still AC life is going on. So here we go J
v Breakfast in bed, yummy Granola that my Grandma made me! Delicious
v Maths Studies- Exponential Functions
v Double Geography- Extreme Environments
v English- discussing Wuthering Heights
The first three days after Project Week the second years are having their Language B orals, so we haven’t had classes if the teachers are covering them- so today I finished lessons at 11:35! What a day!
v 12:00 - Lunch
v 12:45 - Gym
The 10k is this Sunday! Wow I set the goal for myself to become a better runner back in September. In the beginning I didn’t think I would be able to manage to run for an hour without stopping… well it’s almost about to happen! I ran 9k this afternoon in 51 minutes. Yes, it’s on the treadmill and a lot easier- though it’s always been the best way to motivate myself. I like having my water bottle right there, the ability to change my music whenever, watch a show in the background and see my progress while increasing my speed. So this Sunday, though I don’t plan to actually run the 10k, I hope to be able wake up and do it on the treadmill. The actual 10k doesn’t start until 11, so if I get up in time to do both I may walk it with Shana and Chloe (as they’re lifeguards and have to participate).
v This afternoon I began looking at flights for this summer. I’ve been invited by lots of people to their homes- it’s quite a UWC thing to casually invite people all the time- really everyone is welcome. I would love to get the chance to go and see Heidi in Norway and Chloe in Monaco. We’ll see if it gets to happen!
v 4:30 –National Evening Meeting. This Sunday finally! It was postponed. Meeting with my two Jamaicans tomorrow to put together a PowerPoint on our slang/phrases.
v 5:00- Mission Based Class! We’re now doing a round of classes. This was the first one I went to today led by Constantin. He has all German family but grew up in Brussels. We spoke about the aftermath of the Cold War in Germany. Was it fair for them to pay reparations? The split between East and West and whether people still distinguish themselves from that region [prideful vs. ashamed].
v 6:00- Dinner
v 7:00- Finished my last Literature in Translation Essay! Well the first draft anyways… This one was on the Greek tragedy Medea. I chose to write it on the changing sympathies throughout the play.
v 8:00- Reggae Jammin Activity. They made fried dumplings [YUM] and we watched a video called RiseUp about local artists
v 9:00- Sustainability Council Meeting
v 10:00- Heidi's Pooling! [tomorrow I'm going to dinner with her at good ole Visuvio]
v 10:15- 'Back-Up Democracy' for the new Peer Listeners of Morgannwg
This Weekend:
Besides from the 10k run on Sunday and the Afro-Caribbean National Evening there is also the International Show. This is the only school function that is open for the public to see. Students invite their link families and perform whatever they like for the show. It runs two nights and starts at 7. I’m going with Chloe on Friday night J there’s also a Flag Ceremony right at the end, where any student who feels like participating brings up their flag. At least this is how I think it’s going to work… either way I’m quite excited to represent Cayman as the only student with a Caymanian flag! Should be fun.
Also there’s another Sports Week! The Football Competition starts on Saturday, let’s hope Morgannwg manage another victory!
Sadly I’ll miss the rest of Sports Week as I’ll be AT THE LAW CONFERENCE. Yeaaah Buddy!
